HDR is seeking a Construction Inspector to join our Transportation – Construction and Field Services team to work on rail and transit construction projects. Reporting to the group lead, the position will be responsible for coordinating and inspecting of onsite construction, and providing construction administration.
Responsibilities:
- Provide inspection and construction supervision on Class 1 railway and transit projects;
- Maintain accurate daily diary entries and completion of contract documentation records;
- Maintain daily photographic records, and videos as necessary to document contract activities;
- Complete site surveys of completed works for tracking item and material quantities for payment;
- Complete daily inspections in accordance to client requirements and expectations;
- Monitoring construction work is in accordance to contract documents and specifications;
- Monitoring the contractor’s compliance to health and safety, and environmental regulations and legislation;
- Supervise and implement quality assurance acceptance and inspection of construction works;
- Report to the Project Manager and Construction Contract Administrator onsite activities, concerns, and non-conformances, and provide recommendations for resolution;
- Provide mentorship to junior staff;
- Liaise with client representatives, as required;
- Act as client site representative;
- Requires working nights, weekends, and extended shifts;
- Work may be seasonal in nature, as work permits;
- Other duties as assigned.
- Registered with Professional Engineers Ontario (PEO), and or Certified with OACETT as an Engineering Technologist (C.E.T.) or Certified Technologist (C.Tech);
- A minimum of 5 years of construction inspection experience with a minimum of 3 years’ experience providing inspection services on railway and transit projects for clients such as CN Rail, CP Rail, Metrolinx, and TTC;
- Demonstrated experience on railway right-of-way, and railway bridge construction and rehabilitation;
- Proven analytical, communication, and negotiation skills;
- Demonstrated knowledge of relevant Laws and Regulations (Environmental, Health and Safety, etc.) and their application in construction contracts;
- Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing;
- Ability to organize, prioritize and schedule work;
- Ability to analyze and solve problems;
- Valid Ontario driver’s license with an acceptable driving record, and access to a reliable vehicle.
- High School diploma or equivalent
- A minimum of 3 years experience
- Proficient with MS Office (Word/Excel/Outlook)
- Proven problem-solving and documentation abilities
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team
