HDR seeks an experienced and driven Federal Marketing Services Manager to lead all aspects of marketing, pursuit and capture planning, and proposal development activities. The Marketing Services Manager will lead, coordinate, manage, and facilitate all aspects or our marketing requirements in collaboration with client managers, program managers, and other dynamic team members to respond to internal and external activities that enhance HDR’s competitive position resulting in the capture of new contracts.
In the role of Federal Marketing Services Manager, we'll count on you to:
- Supervision and professional development of marketing staff (train and mentor staff).
- Support the area and practice leadership, including Client Development Lead, for the implementation of client-based business development strategies for new and existing clients to increase business opportunities.
- Support area, practice, and national marketing leaders in facilitating, conducting, coordinating, implementing, and monitoring Federal practice client-based business development plans to address market drivers for targeted clients.
- Lead development of annual and long-term strategic office and market segment planning in coordination with national efforts. Track and lead accountability efforts, both tactical and strategic.
- NFB and Marketing Cost Tracking - Monitor and communicate progress toward period and annual net fee bookings goals. Work closely with operational leadership to observe trends, adjust projections, and make required alterations to plan, to achieve year over year goals and cost management targets.
- With the support and guidance of Client Development Lead, area, practice, and business group leadership, develop materials and facilitate training of our staff in business development, including client communications and identifying winning strategies.
- Pursue opportunities, including leading key pursuits (as Proposal Champion) and ensuring sound capture planning and proposal development.
- Oversee and develop strategy, storyboarding, and message development for marketing information, presentations, emerging technical areas, and external and internal communications in support of practice.
- Coordinate/collaborate with Client Development Lead and Client Services Leads on related opportunities and pursuits to develop practice-specific strategic goals and initiatives.
- Assist and support pursuit teams in creating and implementing effective win strategies (capture planning)
- Operate as the proposal manager to actively manage the proposal process from start to finish; apply marketing best practices to improve the quality and efficiency of response
- Evaluate technical content to ensure RFP requirements and evaluation criteria are met and the proposal is compliant. Track amendments and clarifications to ensure that the final proposal incorporates all required information
- Facilitate pursuit teams to develop persuasive proposals and interview materials
- Develop and manage proposal schedules and confirm compliance
- Provide strategy, storyboarding, message development, production support presentations, client briefings, and other internal and external communication
- Engage the appropriate marketing and technical services resources in pursuit teams
- Lead quality reviews of proposal and interview materials
- Facilitate debriefs to identify improvement opportunities and to measure overall competitiveness
- Work with the proposal team to deconstruct proposal contents and capture the material in the firm’s database upon submission
- Track and communicate client/industry trends in types of work, funding, priorities, and future direction. Provide and oversee secondary research related to competition and contract.
- Lead participation activities for industry conferences and awards and provide strategy and oversee event budget.
- Coordination and participation for local chamber and professional organizations
Preferred Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Marketing, Business Communications, Journalism, or a combination of education and relevant experience
- Deep knowledge of the Federal A/E/C industry's standard approach to procurement of professional services
- A minimum of 8 years relevant industry experience
- Demonstrated "self-starter" with a history of completing projects with limited oversight
- Demonstrated ability to motivate and inspire others
- Experience in sales and developing effective win strategies
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Proficient in Microsoft Office applications, including Outlook, Word, Excel and PowerPoint
- Proficient in Adobe Creative Cloud applications, including InDesign
- Ability and desire to travel and engage with others in-person
- Demonstrated experience in winning high-value contracts in the A/E/C industry
- Demonstrated experience in writing compelling content based on information from technical staff
