HDR is looking for a Rail Systems Integration Engineer to join our Toronto office. Reporting to the Section Lead Systems, Operations and Maintenance, you will be part of the larger North America Rail and Transit Systems Team, working closely with project managers and engineering disciplines on a variety of projects in Canada and the US.
As an engineer with growing experience in the rail and transit field, you will support in the development and application of Systems Integration principles (such as requirements management and interface management) on projects. Working with a wide variety of engineering disciplines you will need to be creative, hands-on, and good at problem solving, being able to look at projects from a bigger holistic systems perspective.
You will proactively lead in undertaking systems integration processes, working closely with the Systems Integration Lead to continuously look for ways to build and improve those processes.
This position is ideal for an engineer with a broader view and understanding across multiple engineering and project disciplines (including civil engineering, architecture, track, and rail systems), as opposed to working as a specialized electrical or mechanical engineer for example.
Primary Responsibilities
In the role of Rail Systems Integration Engineer, we'll count on you to:
- Support in the development of Systems Integration processes, and application on a variety of multi-disciplinary projects.
- Facilitate and develop interfaces, requirements, and concepts.
- Support and co-ordinate in undertaking technical reviews of designs, plans, specifications, construction submittals, testing and commissioning documents, etc.
- Support and work closely with the wider Systems Engineering team, including Systems Assurance, RAMS, and Operations & Maintenance.
- Support the development and undertaking of Verification and Validation (V&V) processes.
- A minimum of 5 years’ professional experience, including exposure working on transit or transportation projects.
- An understanding of and experience with systems integration principles such as interface management and requirements management, including experience using tools such as DOORS NG, and familiarity with ISO15288 Standard would be considered an asset
- Experience working on large, multi-disciplinary projects
- Self-starter, able to work independently and lead initiatives on projects
- Adaptable to different project environments, good communication and interpersonal skills
- Highly creative, out-of-the-box approach for problem-solving
- Bachelor's degree
- Requires professional engineering license recognized by the licensing board for the location of the position offered. Example: Professional Engineer (PE or P.Eng) license.
- Hands-on experience with Microstation, OpenRail Designer, AutoCAD and Civil3D
- Must be able to work both independently and in a team setting
- MS Office software experience
- Excellent oral and written communication and project management skills
