HDR is hiring an Aviation Digital Delivery Lead to drive the development and expansion of digital design and delivery capabilities for HDR’s Aviation projects globally. This position can be located in any of the following offices: Fort Lauderdale, Miami, Tallahassee, Tampa, Phoenix, Philadelphia, Pittsburgh, Austin, Dallas, Houston, Boston, Portland, OR, or Omaha.

This role is essential for growing the Aviation Market Sector’s BIM capabilities and advancing the use of BIM across the sector through strategic leadership, training, and best practices. This includes establishing a robust digital design program and nurturing future Area Airfield Digital Design Leads as the program scales. Working closely with the Aviation Business Class Director and the Transportation Digital Delivery Leadership, the role ensures seamless integration and alignment of HDR’s digital delivery goals within the Aviation Market.

Primary Responsibilities

·        Strategic Leadership & Program Growth: Lead the development and execution of BIM and digital design/delivery strategies for Airfield projects. A key responsibility is to identify opportunities for growth and establish Area Airfield Digital Design Leads in key regions. This includes creating a scalable program that promotes leadership development and ensures that BIM capabilities are grown and standardized across areas.

·        BIM & Digital Delivery Expertise: Provide expert leadership in BIM for major Airfield projects, overseeing implementation, risk assessment, and technical reviews. Work closely with design and CADD teams to streamline project kickoffs, 2D to 3D workflow improvements, and ensure alignment with HDR’s Digital Delivery standards. Drive continuous improvement by identifying areas to expand BIM practices, collaborating with local teams, and providing training to ensure successful project execution.

·        Growing BIM Capabilities: Play a pivotal role in advancing BIM within the Aviation Market Sector by developing and delivering trainings, driving awareness, and implementing best practices. Collaborate closely with the Aviation Business Class Director and Transportation Digital Delivery Leadership to ensure HDR remains at the forefront of BIM innovation. This includes monitoring BIM usage, assessing team capabilities, and fostering an environment of learning and growth.

·        Coordination & Alignment: Collaborate with Aviation Engineers, Area Airfield Digital Design Leads, and project teams to ensure cohesive digital design practices across regions. Work in close coordination with the Transportation Digital Delivery Leadership to align Airfield project standards with broader transportation and aviation sector practices. Ensure integration between multiple disciplines on Aviation projects and ensure consistency in tools and methodologies.

·        Training & Development: Develop a comprehensive training program to elevate BIM skills across the Aviation Market Sector. Conduct or coordinate trainings as needed to equip design and CADD teams with the knowledge to excel in BIM and digital delivery working with Digital Delivery Leadership. Monitor proficiency, mentor teams, and provide leadership in ensuring HDR’s digital design capabilities are continuously improving and competitive in the marketplace.

·        Marketing & Business Development: Support strategic marketing initiatives aimed at showcasing HDR’s digital design and delivery leadership within the Aviation Market. Contribute to major project pursuits and scope and fee development, ensuring HDR’s BIM and digital delivery expertise is effectively communicated. Collaborate with internal teams to identify growth opportunities, new technologies, and ways to improve the firm’s global digital design offerings in the Aviation Market Sector.

Preferred Qualifications

·        Bachelor’s Degree in Civil Engineering, Engineering Technology, or a related field

·        A minimum of 10 years of Airfield design experience.

·        A minimum of 10 years of experience in BIM/digital design leadership, including at least 3 years focused on Airfield or aviation-related projects, with a proven track record in managing client relationships with transportation agencies or private entities

·        Demonstrated expertise in 3D modeling and BIM software (e.g., AutoCAD Civil 3D, Autodesk Construction Cloud), including 3D clash detection, model management, and a good understanding of Revit

·        Experience as a BIM/Model Manager, particularly on Airfield projects, with a deep understanding of design criteria and methodologies for digital design and delivery in Airfield projects

·        Skilled in developing and managing strategic marketing programs for BIM-focused services, as well as experience with the creation and implementation of industry standards in BIM

·        Strong background in building and maintaining client relationships across various sectors, with a demonstrated ability to lead program and project pursuits

·        Experience with industry associations and maintaining a visible presence in the transportation and aviation markets

·        Proven ability to train and mentor staff, providing exceptional support and development, while leading digital design programs and ensuring successful project execution.

·        The ability to effectively collaborate with diverse stakeholders, including client managers, project managers, discipline leads, technical directors, and business group directors

·        Demonstrated commitment to HDR values and active participation in our employee-owned culture, with a strong emphasis on teamwork and ethical responsibility

·        Certified Professional in Civil 3D and/or AutoCAD, with proven experience in publishing 3D BIM models to GIS and integrating GIS within BIM workflows

·        Strong management and financial oversight skills, with the ability to manage digital design and delivery project scopes, budgets, and ensure alignment with client expectations

·        Extensive experience with BIM coordination tools, model health assessments, and familiarity with ISO-19650 standards for information management

Required Qualifications
  • Technical degree or a combination of education and relevant experience
  • A minimum of 5 years digital design (BIM element authoring) and  5 years digital delivery (model management) experience
  • Comprehensive understanding of all discipline relations and operations of building systems   
  • Advanced skillset of 3D design software and document management infrastructure
  • Advanced skillset of 3D Coordination tools
  • Advanced skillset of Microsoft Office products and communication tools
  • Familiar with industry standards and practices, along with discipline codes and specifications
  • Familiar with basic automation and programming applications for efficiencies
  • Familiar with 3D design software add-ins and supporting applications
  • Familiar with content creation and management concepts
  • Superior client service, communication, and presentation skills are essential
  • Demonstrate strong analytical and problem-solving skills to effectively serve as a first line of technical support
  • Excellent communication skills, attention to detail and leadership traits are essential
  • Must have strong organizational skills to establish priorities between technical support requests and project work
  • Must be enthusiastic, energetic, and an excellent work ethic
