The primary responsibilities for our Construction Inspector, Rail:
- Provide inspection and construction supervision on Class 1 railway projects.
- Maintain accurate daily diary entries and completion of contract documentation records.
- Maintain daily photographic records, and videos as necessary to document contract activities.
- Complete site surveys of completed works for tracking item and material quantities for payment
- Complete daily inspections in accordance to client requirements and expectations.
- Monitoring construction work is in accordance to contract documents and specifications.
- Monitoring the contractor’s compliance to health and safety, and environmental regulations and legislation.
- Supervise and implement quality assurance acceptance and inspection of construction works.
- Report to the Project Manager onsite activities, concerns, and non-conformances, and provide recommendations for resolution.
- Provide mentorship to junior staff.
- Liaise with client representatives, as required.
- Act as client site representative.
- Requires working nights, weekends, and extended shifts.
- Work may be seasonal in nature, as work permits.
- Other duties as assigned.
The role of Construction Inspector, Rail is a casual, temporary, as-needed position. There will not be a set schedule but will be notified when we have work available.
- Minimum 5 years’ experience with engineering or construction.
- Preferred previous experience working with CN Rail and CPKC Rail projects.
- Previous experience working on municipal or provincial transportation projects would be as asset but not required.
- Be able to read and interpret construction design drawings.
- Ability to work in a team environment and independently in remote locations.
- Emergency First Aid & CPR Certification.
- Valid license with an acceptable driving record, and access to a reliable vehicle.
- Requires high school diploma or equivalent. (Candidates with 8 years of relevant construction inspection experience may substitute experience for a high school diploma)
- A minimum of 3 years experience
- Proficient with MS Office (Word/Excel/Outlook)
- Proven problem-solving and documentation abilities
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team
- An attitude and commitment to being an active participant of our employee-owned culture is a must
