As Director of Marketing & Growth (DMG) you will be part of an organization that is 100-percent employee owned, that supports and creates opportunities for you to advance, succeed and fulfill your career aspirations.

About You

You are an accomplished leader in the architectural, engineering and planning industry with the poise and composure to partner with our executive-level leadership. You work collaboratively across disciplines and establish rapport within diverse teams. You are able to excel under pressure and can manage a varied workload across our broad business while staying focused on big-picture priorities. 

In your role as DMG, you will drive top-line sales growth by leveraging the combined advantages of our sectors and business groups to help us capture the greatest market share for our employee-owners; elevate the status of our business development and marketing professionals across the enterprise to provide consistency and synergies in our metrics/KPIs, training, materials and strategic pursuit programs resulting in a consistency in messaging; elevate our Client Experience to an industry best; and support our strategic plan objectives with a focus on HDR as One Company.

Responsibilities

An executive-level position as part of the Executive Leadership Team (ELT) that wakes up every day thinking about growing HDR’s business, the DMG will balance focus between operations and growth, building on successful operational initiatives. The DMG will play a pivotal role in supporting cross-company revenue growth, championing HDR’s client culture, optimizing the client experience, and fostering cross-functional collaboration. The DMG will strive to support HDR’s Annual and Strategic Plans and with a focus on strategic growth, client development, and top-line metrics. Reporting to the Chief Strategy Officer the DMG will: 

  • Partner with corporate, business group and operations leadership in shaping the company's overall top-line revenue strategy and growth trajectory, lead new growth initiatives, and identify opportunities for long-term revenue growth with maximum profitability potential.
  • Leverage data analytics, evaluating new technologies related to business development to implement a technology-driven approach that facilitates more precise targeting and personalization, leading to repeat business and focused growth opportunities.
  • Drive collaboration across the enterprise for business development, sales, marketing, and client management activities; including development and deployment of training programs and organization of our strategic pursuits program.
  • Lead collaboration between business groups; identify and strategize with operational leadership to enhance collaboration between areas, regions, market sectors, business groups and cross-sectors.
  • Champion a unified approach where client engagement teams deploy all business classes to provide the full spectrum of HDR services needed by clients regardless of business group. 
  • Identify and support Cross Business Group (BGX) opportunities that require coordination across the business groups to maximize HDR return, including participating in external client development activities.
  • Work closely with all business groups to integrate marketing, sales, project delivery and client service teams to ensure consistent messaging and quality interactions, recognizing that each client interaction spanning the entire project life cycle can impact revenue generation and overall client experience.
  • Assess risks and opportunities for sustainable growth with a lens on global economic, environmental, and social factors.
  • Recognize and adapt to changing market conditions; assessing and realigning strategies, exploring new revenue streams, utilizing industry research, and critically evaluating underperforming initiatives in the context of enterprise investments.

Preferred Qualifications

  • 20 years’ experience in leadership and management of diverse teams
  • Broad (global) A/E (architectural/engineering) industry experience especially related to growth trends, client development, and marketing strategies.
  • Awareness of macro-economic trends affecting our industry and the HDR enterprise.
  • Strong understanding of HDR’s business operations and employee-ownership model.
  • Consensus building, collaborative leadership-style. Entrepreneurial mindset.
  • Dynamic communication skills to present new ideas, challenge norms, build trust, and collaborate across the global enterprise.
  • Experienced in supporting organizational change.
  • Experienced in development and management of strategic marketing and/or client relationship programs.
  • Demonstrated experience working cooperatively across Market Sector Directors, Business Class Directors, Regional Business Group Directors, Area Business Group Managers, Area Business Group Business Development Managers, Managing Principles, and Area Managers.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in communications/marketing/change management/engineering/architecture/business/ or similar.
  • Minimum of 15 years’ experience in leadership and management of diverse teams in the AEC space is required. 
  • Ability to interact with varied teams, have excellent organizational, project management and communication (both written and verbal) and listening skills.
  • Strong skills in client management, client development and a documented history of growing/leading a practice and winning work.
  • Ability to analyze the marketplace and strategically position HDR.
  • Demonstrated commitment to HDR values.
  • 40% travel.
  • This is an in-office position. Preference given to candidates whose location aligns with an established, larger HDR office
