HDR is currently seeking an Ohio Transit Planning Lead located in Ohio. The Ohio Transit Planning Lead is expected to lead and grow the HDR transit planning practice through effective business development strategies and strong project delivery skills. This leader’s responsibilities include identifying viable pursuits and developing effective capture strategies to win those pursuits through strategic teaming, client engagement, project staffing, mobilization of key resources, and innovative delivery approaches. The individual will be the face of HDR to the Ohio Transit industry and is expected to develop, recruit and assist with management of staff involved in the planning and design of transit infrastructure and services for bus, commuter rail, intercity rail, LRT, streetcar and other transit initiatives. This individual will also participate in the advancement of regional, national and global HDR transit initiatives as their skillsets and experience can add value.
Additional responsibilities will include:
- Coordination with the HDR regional transit team on the priorities of national transit/transportation leadership and area operations management to drive growth of the transit market sector in Ohio.
- Client management activities to ensure client satisfaction. Promotes and conducts branding of HDR to the industry and client community and serves as the face of HDR to executive management, board members and project management staff of clients.
- Knowledge of and experience with transit studies, planning, NEPA and/or design of multi-discipline projects and projects with high degree of technical complexity, typically in excess of $5 million.
- Effective project management and task management skills. Serves as a project director or project manager for key transit projects, or contributes in a support role as appropriate.
- Works on select key projects and provides technical expertise to direct tasks, provide quality control reviews, and oversight as needed.
- Establish/foster teaming relationships with other consulting firms and collaborate with alternative delivery staff to form relationships with contractors.
- Works with Business/Accounting Manager, Project Controller or Company Controller and management as needed for reviews, goals, project accounting, etc.
- Participates in ensuring adherence to Quality Assurance and Quality Control procedures on transit projects.
- Successful Project Delivery.
- Works with HDR counterparts to develop strategies for: key hires, project pursuits, team growth, area growth and profitability, employee engagement and satisfaction.
In the role of Ohio Transit Planning Lead, we'll count on you to:
- Take responsibility for operations of production section including staff development, profitability, morale, quality control and marketing support.
- Function as Project Manager and take responsibility for production on projects in addition to management responsibilities.
- Take administrative responsibility for section staff and technical service functions, and lead and coordinate services with other sections.
- Be involved in marketing planning, proposals and interviews.
- Be directly involved with industrial and public clients in marketing, project production and related issues.
- See that all work is planned, organized, controlled and evaluated through proactive project management system.
- Implement, monitor and support company policy.
- Select, train, develop and manage technical personnel.
- Manage and develop multidiscipline teams.
- Work cooperatively with National Directors and marketing staff in local and national marketing and production efforts.
- Perform other duties as needed.
Preferred Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Planning, Engineering, Environmental Science, Public Administration, Finance/Accounting or related area. Advanced degree preferred.
- 10 years of cumulative relevant private and/or public sector experience in transit planning, operations, projects and programs.
- Skilled in transit planning and/ or design.
- Strong team leader, consensus builder, and team player skilled in technical writing and public presentation.
- Experience developing winning teams, championing pursuits and preparing proposals.
- Experience in preparing transportation plans, corridor plans, transit studies and similar plans/reports; preferably for state/local governments or agencies.
- Experience in public participation, agency coordination, planning, and programming.
- Well-developed analytical, organizational, time management, interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills.
- Experience with NEPA and FTA New Starts/Small Starts requirements.
- Have a positive attitude and ability to work independently or as part of a team.
- Demonstrated ability to manage multiple projects and personnel.
- Professional registration such as AICP, PE, PMP a plus.
- An attitude and commitment to being an active participant of our employee-owned culture is a must.
