We are adding a Senior Communications & Campaign Strategist to lead the execution of integrated marketing and communications campaigns to further the reach of our architecture practice through the promotion of projects, thought leadership and strategic initiatives across a variety of platforms. In collaboration with the Architecture Business Group’s broader, decentralized communications team located throughout North America and Australia, this person will be responsible for spearheading the development and implementation of multi-channel strategies — including social media, digital content, media outreach, and events — that drive engagement and visibility among key audiences.

You’ll bring confidence, a sharp editorial sense, and a knack for uncovering and shaping content that resonates with diverse audiences to this role. Your ability to blend analytical insight with creativity will enable you to spot opportunities, craft compelling messaging, and support initiatives that reflect HDR’s values and expertise. All of this will be grounded in strong relationships with internal colleagues and stakeholders and external partners to drive successful outcomes. Reporting to the Communications Principal, Architecture. This role has flexibility to be full time in the office or hybrid, with occasional travel required.
Key Responsibilities
Lead Integrated Campaigns
•In collaboration with design professionals, market sector leaders, and the broader communications team, lead the translation of stories and thought leadership into coordinated campaigns that align with Architecture Business Group business goals.
•Develop campaign strategies across multiple channels — including email, social media, web, and events.
•Manage timelines, content creation, and performance tracking to ensure campaigns are effective and on-brand.
•Oversee day-to-day use of Eloqua, our Oracle-based email-marketing system and leverage it for campaign management as appropriate.
Shape Narrative and Content
•Collaborate with the communications team, architecture marketing studio (AMS), and design leaders to shape content that reflects HDR’s design philosophy and global impact.
•Translate complex architectural and planning concepts into accessible, visually compelling communications.
Contribute to Broader Strategy & Communications Goals
•Partner with communications and broader AMS team to shape integrated marketing strategies and communications plans for each architecture sector (Health, Education + Science, Civic + Community) and the broader business group, with a focus on media relations, paid content, and social media.
•Collaborate closely with communications colleagues to cultivate strong media relationships and embed media engagement across strategic campaigns.
•Monitor the performance of paid content / media initiatives and provide strategic recommendations to optimize future efforts.
•Actively participate in local office / studio to understand the nature of the design culture and become familiar with work in the local and regional market.
Provide Informed, Future-Oriented Guidance
•Investigate and advocate for AI tools and communication approaches that embrace forward progress without sacrificing authenticity.
•Serve as a trusted advisor to architecture leadership and marketing teams on challenges and opportunities within the industry-wide communications landscape.
•Mentor and provide collegial support to all team members and contribute to a culture of storytelling, collaboration, and curiosity.
•Ability to commute to local HDR design studio/office and travel up to 20% of the time.
Preferred Qualifications
•Sharp editorial judgment and the ability to shape content that resonates with diverse audiences.
•Demonstrated ability to build strong relationships with media partners, subject matter experts, and firm leadership.
•Proficiency in communication platforms (social, email, web), CMS and email marketing tools and analytics dashboards (e.g., Google Analytics, etc.).
•Bachelor’s degree in Communications, Architecture, Journalism, or a related field.

- A minimum of 7 years experience in a communications field of expertise: social media, event planning, community engagement, target marketing, descriptive writing, public involvement, etc
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Self-motivated and ability to work independent with multiple teams as well as team oriented
- Great interpersonal and communication skills - positive outlook and attitude
- High aptitude for managing and solving tactical issues
- An attitude and commitment to being an active participant of our employee-owned culture is a must
- Comfortable and competent while working with senior leaders and managing cross-functional efforts
- Demonstrated ability to operate both strategically and tactically in a high-energy, fast-paced environment
- Committed to quality, continuous improvement, and HDR values
- Proficient in Adobe Creative Suite - InDesign
- Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite
