HDR is seeking a Senior Transit Project Manager. This individual will lead and manage complex transit projects - including Bus, Bus Rapid Transit, Streetcar, Light Rail, Commuter Rail or Transit Support Facilities. The projects will range from planning and preliminary engineering through final design and construction support. The ideal candidate will have a proven track record of managing multidisciplinary teams and delivering high-profile transit infrastructure projects.
As a Senior Transit Project Manager, you’ll be responsible for pursuing, scoping, planning, scheduling, managing, directing, and monitoring projects. Your work may also include supporting project management duties in delivering mega-transit projects or programs. These include design management, delivery management, or technical management roles. Additionally, you’ll be expected to collaborate and coordinate with leadership, other project managers, and technical staff across HDR’s global transit market sector. The ideal candidate must have a strong foundation in the transit industry, knowledge of client programs and experience managing multi-disciplinary project deliverables. This role will lead and support projects with the expectation that the candidate can travel to be in-person with clients and teams within North America.
In this role, we'll count on you to:

Serve as the project manager or in project management support roles on major transit infrastructure projects.

Be responsible for general project administration including Document Controls, Procurement, DBE/ADA Civil Rights, Project Controls and Risk Management

Develop work scopes and negotiate additional services contracts and contract changes for clients; coordinate and supervise engineering design activitiesPlan, organize, and manage capital project scopes, schedules, and budgets

Take responsibility for the project from the proposal through preparation of plans, specifications and estimates of moderate to large transit projects

Coordinate workload through design development and construction document phases to complete the documents on schedule and within budget

Independently coordinate the work of professional staff and balance the team throughout the entire project's development

Track the financial aspects of projects, and coordinate/adjust the work efforts with teams to ensure that work is completed within the parameters of the agreed-upon schedule

Fostering long-term relationships with clients and partners to ensure client satisfaction through excellent service and delivery.

Collaborate with HDR’s national transit practice and contribute to business development, including proposal preparation, client engagement, and contract negotiation.

Assist clients in the day-to-day project management activities of design, funding, construction and project control related to transit projects

Lead teams on a variety of transportation planning and engineering projects

Manage planning, engineering, and architectural activities related to the design and construction or modification of transit infrastructure and facilities

Coordinate with governmental and private agencies (stakeholders, cities, counties, DOT, utility companies, etc.) in the design and construction of transit projects

Provide updates to design criteria manuals, standard project specifications, and standard details for transit capital projects

Participate in reviews and concept/design meetings with various clients and partners

Conduct work sessions for design development

Coordinate interdisciplinary review of documents for areas of conflict with all disciplines

Attend client meetings and must have the ability to present a design approach for technical discussion

Manage and mentor project teams, providing guidance on technical approaches, quality assurance, and project delivery strategies.

Implement QA/QC procedures

Perform other design/engineering tasks as assigned
Required Qualifications

Bachelor's Degree in Civil Engineering or closely related field

A minimum of 10 years combined experience in transit and/or roadway engineering

At least 5 years of experience in managing complex transit projects with multi-disciplinary teams

Professional Engineer (PE) license

Strong verbal and written communication skills
-
Competence in Microsoft Office, including Word, Excel and Project

Strong organizational and time management skills with ability to effectively work on multiple projects simultaneously

Strong leadership skills with the ability to lead multiple teams through various tasks

Experience working with public transportation agencies and knowledge of FTA funding and regulatory processes.

Ability to travel as needed for client meetings and project oversight.

Project budgets, estimating, Cost control, scheduling and risk management

Local, regional, state, and federal agencies, groups and organizations involved in transit planning and development

National, State and Local Laws, codes, regulations, and legal requirements related to public transportation

Americans with Disabilities Act Accessible Guidelines
Preferred Qualifications

PMP designation
-
Experience with alternative project delivery methods.

Experience with Program Management.
-
Active involvement in professional organizations (APTA, ASCE, WTS, etc.).
Traffic and transit signal priority (TSP) experience in order to work with department of transportations on behalf of project and its needs

- A minimum 5 years project management experience
- Professional Engineer (PE or P.Eng) license
- MS Office and MS Project experience (Access experience would be plus)
- Demonstrated leadership, business development and strategic planning skills
