Primary Responsibilities
HDR is currently looking for a national State DOT Planning & Modal Practice Leader to complement our growing Transportation Planning Business Class. The position will collaborate with Market Sectors, Regional Transportation Planning Business Class Leaders, Area Business Development Leaders, and other Practice Leaders to support the growth and development of our state DOT multimodal transportation planning practice. The ideal candidate will possess extensive experience and strong leadership skills to oversee the practice while creating value for our clients by integrating our core services with emerging industry trends and business management practices.
In the role of State DOT Planning & Modal Practice Leader, we’ll count on you to:
- Take responsibility for companywide development, coordination, monitoring and improvement of technical competencies of state DOT planning and modal staff and products to meet client needs and market drivers
- Collaborate with Practice Group members to elevate our statewide multimodal planning practice and help state DOT clients set strategic goals and design implementable policies to achieve them.
- Identify market opportunities in close coordination with Area Business Development Leaders and develop winning pursuit strategies. Also assist with local and national pursuits.
- Monitor transportation policies at the federal, state, and local levels involving all modes of transportation and help clients develop strategic plans to take advantage of the opportunities by leveraging the HDR talent pool
- Work with other Practice Leaders to develop transformative ideas that will enable clients to take advantage of emerging transportation trends (advance air mobility, automated-connected-electric-shared vehicles, etc.) and future-proof investments; and also allow HDR to maintain thought leadership position in the industry.
- Actively drive open communication with the Practice Group members regarding current/projected production needs; and collaborate with areas to influence staffing and expertise levels
- Identify industry talent and work with Area and Corporate leadership to attract and retain staff
- Oversee delivery of project services and deliverables to meet client expectations
- Maintain standards for quality and consistency of service brand
- Maintain qualification packages and staff skills matrix that can be readily utilized for project pursuits. Assist with the development of marketing materials including proposals.
- Lead workshare communications that result in technical excellence and enhanced utilization
- Advocate for professional development of staff and development of production tools: best practices, technical policies and procedures, papers and presentations, and automation tools
- Serve as a project manager for major policy and strategic planning projects and leverage HDR’s global expertise to deliver quality work on time, while meeting or exceeding client expectations
- Develop client relationships in close coordination with Area Business Development Leaders and local transportation planning staff
- Represent HDR at regional and national level professional organizations like AASHTO, SASHTO, MAASTO, NASTO, and WASHTO.
- Act as role model of our values and code of conduct, as well as professional/ethical/business standards expected by specific clients and required by licensing/credentialing entities
Perform other duties as needed
Preferred Qualifications:
- Master’s degree in Planning, Engineering, or related discipline preferred
- Professional registration such as AICP, PE, PTOE, PTP, PMP preferred
- Master's degree in Business Administration or closely related field
- A minimum of 10 years consulting experience and extensive related expertise
- Proficiency with MS Office products including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, MS Access and Outlook
- Excellent interpersonal skills and strong relationship, organizational and follow-up skills
- An attitude and commitment to being an active participant of our employee-owned culture is a must
