The successful candidate will be an integral part of a team that executes technical design of Transmission engineering projects ranging in scale from simple structure replacements to large greenfield design projects. This is an excellent growth opportunity for a self-directed individual who is eager to learn and take on new challenges.
In the role of a Transmission Drafter, we'll count on you to:
- Work with the AZ/NM Transmission design team, under the direct supervision of a Transmission Project Manager, or design engineer.
- Assist in developing technical design drawings including Plan & Profile drawings, structure framing drawings, stringing charts, materials lists and other details as required for the design with direct input from the design team.
- Responsible for the creation of CAD files utilizing geospatial resources, historic drawings, vendor cut sheets and other resources to be used in engineering design.
- Prepare structure reinforcement drawings for lattice steel towers based upon historic drawings with input from design engineer, project team, and subject matter experts.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Candidates located in the Phoenix area are preferred.
- Consulting engineering or utility engineering experience preferred.
- Proficient using Bluebeam, Global Mapper, and/or PLS-CADD.
- Openness and willingness to work on cross-functional assignments in adjacent industries (substation, distribution, civil/structural, etc.)
- Responsible for learning, understanding, and implementing CAD knowledge; learning client standards, practices, and procedures to ensure that work produced conforms to both client and HDR standards and expectations.
- Associate of Applied Science in Computer Aided Drafting or equivalent 1-4 years work experience required.
- Prepare construction documents using AutoCAD and Microstation.
- Proficient use of CAD software to produce civil, structural, and plan & profile drawings.
- Proficient using Microsoft Office Suite, AutoDesk, and Microstation.
- Ability to work closely and coordinate projects with engineering staff and designers.
- Ability to work in a fast-changing environment and manage multiple projects at one time.
- An attitude and commitment to being an active participant in our employee-owned culture is a must.

- Technically qualified with 3D design software and document management infrastructure
- Competency of Microsoft Office products and communication tools
- Excellent communication skills, attention to detail, and organizational traits are essential
- Basic understanding of engineering or architectural concepts
