Primary Responsibilities
The Program Management Director will drive the strategy for and manage the delivery of Program Management services to support clients in all Market Sectors throughout the Transportation Business Group (TBG). This position will be responsible for providing overall vision and direction for the strategic planning and development of initiatives for the delivery of Program Management services, implementation of Program Management quality control, and overall coordination and growth of Program Management staff. Program Management services account for a significant portion of HDR TBG’s $1.5B annual program. Primary duties will be to:
1. Drive the vision for growth in Program Management services.
2. Implement and refine our Program Management processes and systems.
3. Coordinate staffing on relevant projects/programs for Transportation TBG.
4. Provide oversight on large programs, including occasionally acting as the lead or principal in charge.
5. Assist and support the strategic and tactical pursuits specific to large programs.
6. Serve as the Program Management Business Class Director until such time as the growth of the program demands additional support. Develop and provide mentorship for staff in the Program Management Business Class and other Business Classes and Cross Sectors that support Program Management (Project Controls, Procurement, Commercial Management, etc.)
7. Develop the strategic growth plan, identify staffing needs, and actively manage recruiting efforts and identify metrics for determining overall program success.
8. Direct efforts to utilize staff and enhance the overall success of Program Management services within HDR.
9. Coordinate with Company wide Program Management Director, and Program Management Directors in other Business Groups to optimize strategy, services, quality control and client service.
The candidate must have experience leading and managing large Transportation Programs within any of the current Market Sectors that the Transportation Business Group serves. The candidate must posses and have demonstrated a strong ability as a program builder and mentor to build a industry leading Program Management portfolio. The candidate should have proven ability in business development, presentations, and acting as a trusted advisor to clients. This position requires significant travel often beyond more than 50% of the time on a monthly basis, and potentially more, should there be a long-term Program assignment. This position requires good interpersonal skills to be able to communicate with technical as well as non-technical personnel, and work across HDR’s matrix with other leaders such as Market Sector Directors and Regional Business Group Directors, as well as company Operations leaders

Preferred Qualifications
- Degree in Engineering Architecture Construction Management/Science or equivalent. Professional registration or PE License will be considered a plus preferred.
- 20+ years of experience, with a strong background in leading transportation projects.
- Must have background as a Program Manager on large program delivery projects.
- Experience leading and managing staff in Program Management. Must be comfortable with high volume of travel.
- Be well-versed in managing multiple projects for a variety of clients.
- Have strong leadership skills with respect to: Multi-tasking Organization Team-building, Problem evaluation and solving,
- Have good interpersonal skills to be able to communicate with technical as well as non-technical personnel.
- Have the ability to participate in high level presentations with current clients and potential future clients to present company experience and capabilities.
- This position can be located in any of our US offices.
This position is a senior leadership position in the Transportation Business Group and reports directly to the Transportation Business Group President, but may in the future report to the Professional Services Director for Transportation to be in alignment with our Corporate Services reporting structure.
- Bachelor's degree in a Professional, Architecture, Engineering or closely related field
- A minimum of 10 years project management experience working with external clients
- Understanding of HDR business services and procedures
- Strong written and verbal communication skills with interview (fact-finding) experience
