In the role of Control Systems Business Class Lead, we'll count on you to:

  • Take responsibility for operations of production section including staff development, profitability, morale, quality control and marketing support
  • Schedule and coordinate all work performed by Control Systems Section to achieve the utilization goals established for the section
  • Proactively communicate with other Section Managers, Business Class Leads and Project Managers across the company to maintain sufficient workload for the I&C section
  • Prepare/review control systems scope of work and budgets/estimates for proposal and track control systems budget status throughout the course of each project performed by the Control Systems Section
  • Independently coordinate the work of the Control Systems design team through the design development and contract phases of a project
  • Take administrative responsibility for section staff and technical service functions, and lead and coordinate services with other sections
  • Conduct interviews, hire new staff, and provide new employee training and mentoring, as required, to meet the operational goals of the section
  • Establish employee goals and conduct employee reviews on a regular basis
  • Function as Project Manager and take responsibility for production on projects in addition to management responsibilities
  • Facilitate and encourage communication with other disciplines
  • Advance the skill level of personnel through training, education, experience, etc.
  • Coordinate with other Control Systems Section Managers/Business Class Leads throughout HDR to review workload, project status, and staffing requirements
  • Monitor changes in codes, regulations, and client standards and implement required changes into the design standards, procedures, and deliverables prepared by the Control Systems section
  • Proactively pursue additional Control Systems design and systems integration work with existing and new clients
  • Expand Control Systems service offerings within local and regional market to grow and support group of Control Systems engineers, programmers, and technicians
  • Participate in marketing planning, proposals and interviews in coordination and collaboration with other multi-discipline project pursuits
  • Be directly involved with industrial and public clients in marketing, project production and related issues
  • Coordinate workload of Control Systems staff through design development and construction document phases to complete documents on schedule and within agreed upon budgets
  • See that all work is planned, organized, controlled and evaluated through proactive project management system
  • Implement, monitor and support company policy
  • Select, train, develop and manage technical personnel
  • Manage and develop multidiscipline teams
  • Work cooperatively with National Directors and marketing staff in local and national marketing and production efforts
  • Conduct QA/QC reviews on the work of other Control Systems Project Engineers, programmers, and technicians, as needed
  • Actively contribute to Control Systems Technical Leadership Team and drive corporate initiatives for quality and strategic growth within the Control Systems discipline

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical, Chemical or Electrical Engineering
  • 10 or more years management and leadership experience
  • Professional Engineering (PE) license in Control Systems or Electrical/Computer
  • Experience in preparing design calculations, specifications, and construction drawings for industrial, commercial, and federal projects
  • Ability to work on Department of Defense projects
  • Strong communication and listening skills
  • Excellent leadership and mentoring skills
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office
  • Excellent time management and organization skills with the ability to manage several concurrent project schedules
  • Good leadership and organizational skills
  • Ability to interact with design and construction teams in a positive and proactive manner
Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in a Professional, Architecture, Engineering or closely related field
  • 10 years of experience
  • Committed to quality, improvement and HDR values
  • Maintains a professional or engineering registration and has related technical experience 
  • Experienced in development and management of diverse teams
  • Works cooperatively with other area business class leaders, operations managers, technical directors and marketing managers on business class efforts
  • An attitude and commitment to being an active participant of our employee-owned culture is a must
