Join HDR as a Traffic Project Manager

At HDR, we’re not just designing roads—we’re reimagining how people move. As a 100% employee-owned company, our success is driven by passionate professionals committed to delivering smart, safe, and sustainable transportation solutions. We’re seeking a Traffic Project Manager who’s ready to take the lead on innovative infrastructure projects and make a tangible impact in the communities we serve.

What You’ll Do

As a key member of our Transportation team, you'll manage the planning, design, and execution of small to medium-sized traffic engineering projects—or take the reins on larger, routine efforts. You’ll be the go-to leader ensuring our technical work is seamless, timely, and tailored to our clients’ evolving needs.

You will:

  • Lead with confidence: Oversee all phases of project development—from initial planning to final delivery—coordinating internal teams and external stakeholders.

  • Own the client relationship: Serve as the primary contact for clients, contribute to business development efforts, and represent HDR in meetings and marketing pursuits.

  • Drive technical excellence: Apply your deep expertise in traffic engineering to develop high-quality plans, specifications, and estimates for:

    • Traffic signal and pedestrian systems

    • ITS and roadway lighting

    • Signing, pavement marking, and maintenance of traffic (MOT)

  • Analyze and optimize: Perform traffic operational analysis using tools like Synchro/SimTraffic, HCS, VISSIM, and TranSync. Interpret crash data, conduct predictive safety studies, and prepare detailed technical reports.

  • Explore innovation: Participate in emerging technology testing, conduct field reviews, and contribute to future-focused transportation research.

  • Mentor and inspire: Guide and support junior engineers, fostering a collaborative and growth-oriented team culture.

What We’re Looking For

  • Proven experience in traffic project management, from technical design through to client interaction and delivery

  • Strong command of traffic engineering principles, standards, and tools (Synchro, VISSIM, AGi32, etc.)

  • Ability to lead multidisciplinary coordination with roadway, drainage, structural, and environmental teams

  • Excellent communication and leadership skills with a passion for mentoring and development

Why HDR?

  • Employee Ownership: As a 100% employee-owned company, you’ll benefit from a culture of empowerment and shared success.

  • Impactful Work: Be part of projects that truly improve the safety and efficiency of transportation systems across the region.

  • Career Growth: We invest in your professional development through mentorship, training, and opportunities to work on high-visibility projects.

  • Inclusive Culture: We’re committed to diversity, equity, and inclusion—and to creating a workplace where everyone thrives.

Ready to lead high-impact projects and shape the future of mobility? Join us.
