HDR is currently seeking an entry level Geomatics Technician 1 to work as a member of a geomatics crew based out of our Lafayette, LA office. The Geomatics Technician 1 would work outside daily providing support conventional data collection and surveys, as well as terrestrial and aerial lidar surveys, for public, private and internal clients.
Applicant must be willing and able to travel, and be responsible, highly motivated, and detail oriented. Entry level surveyors complete a variety of professional assignments to facilitate the completion of surveys while learning the methods of the work. The primary duties of this position will be to assist the party chief as directed to conduct land surveys, maintain surveying equipment and survey vehicle inventory, maintain records, prepare reports, and other functions as required.
Primary Responsibilities
In the role of Geomatics Technician 1, we'll count on you to:
· Be knowledgeable of or ability to learn surveying instruments and equipment, including but not limited to Trimble GNSS equipment, total stations, and terrestrial scanners.
· Be knowledgeable of or ability to learn the principles and practices of land surveying.
· Apply knowledge of surveying techniques to project activities.
· Make arithmetic computations accurately and record results legibly.
· Read, interpret, and use topographic maps and design drawings.
· Maintain records, and prepare reports and correspondence related to work.
· Conduct and/or oversee the maintenance and care of survey equipment.
· Demonstrate understanding of basic survey or CAD computer applications.
· Follow company policies and procedures.
· Follow safety procedures in the field.
· Carry out written and oral directions.
· Communicate effectively with others.
· Maintain favorable public relations.
· Perform other duties as needed.
· Travel to support projects across the United States required. Weekends and overtime may be required at times.
Preferred Qualifications
· Experience with Trimble GNSS equipment, total stations, and terrestrial scanners
· Experience providing ground support for lidar and photogrammetry surveys
· Experience in AutoCAD and/or Trimble Business Center
· Associate degree in a closely related field or combination of education and relevant experience
· Valid driver’s license and ability to pass a driving record check.
